The mushroom Cloud and its lessons
In August 1945, near the end of World War II, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. The first bomb, "Little Boy," was detonated over Hiroshima on August 6, destroying the city and killing tens of thousands instantly. On August 9, a second bomb, "Fat Man," was dropped on Nagasaki, causing similar devastation. By the end of 1945, it is estimated that more than 200,000 people had died as a result of both bombings.
